CHANNEL DRAINS

Stop water at the edge of the driveway.

A channel drain, also called a trench drain, is a long, narrow drain with a grate set flush into concrete or pavers. It catches sheets of runoff across a whole width, so water never reaches your garage, lanai or front door.

THE BASICS

How channel drains work

We cut a narrow trench across the path water travels, set a channel body level with the surface, and top it with a grate. The channel connects to solid pipe that carries the water to an outlet. Grates are chosen for where they go: rated for car traffic on driveways, and finished to match pool decks and patios.

QUESTIONS

Straight answers about channel drains.

Can a channel drain be added to an existing driveway?

In most cases, yes. We cut a clean strip, install the channel and patch the surface. For pavers, we lift and reset the pavers around it.

Can cars drive over it?

Yes. Driveway channel drains use grates rated for vehicle traffic.

Where does the water go?

The channel ties into buried pipe that runs to an outlet such as a swale, the street where allowed, or a dry well. We plan that route during your free estimate.

Does it need maintenance?

Just an occasional check to clear leaves and debris from the grate, especially after storms.
